Today's post is a guest post by Yolanda Rose Haripersad. Yolanda is mother, wife, serial entrepreneur, digital marketer, wealth advisor and host of The Digital Masters Podcast & the Wealth Nation Podcast:
It’s time to have some fun in between the sheets—balance sheets, that is.
I would bet my wedding ring, that there is no couple that has not had a disagreement about money.
Financially planning as newly weds is essential to a successful marriage.
Come clean about salaries and other income, as well as your spending and debt.
A recent survey found that 38% of couples were only somewhat or not at all aware of their significant other’s debts. In fact, 43% of people don’t even know how much their partner earns, a Fidelity survey found. The irony: 72% of the same couples said that they communicate exceptionally or very well about financial matters.
I spoke to Magda Wierzycka, founder and CEO of Sygnia, a financial services company. Magda recommends that, we as women, should never depend on a man for money.
Married or not, we need our own money. Yes, we will plan and build wealth together, but set aside a certain portion for your personal needs.
This August, in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa, I launched a new podcast focusing on empowering women on their personal finance and entrepreneurial journey.
The Wealth Nation Podcast launches on 1 August 2019. The Show is for every mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and wife as well as the men who are smart enough to tune in. The show brings you all you need to know about Investments, business, property investments, personal finance and all round financial wellness.
In my first episode I speak to one of South Africa’s female financial power houses, Magda Wierzycka, founder and CEO of Sygnia. She tells us 7 things that women should do to get her finances in order.

Rustic has evolved and aren't we just ecstatic about it?!
I find it so beautiful how the rustic/boho theme is still going strong and even though a person would think that every idea for this concept could possibly be old and tired each couple comes up with a new idea, making it their own. A breathe of fresh air providing the theme with their own individualism.
This styled shoot captures all of these pretty concepts! Rustic is definitely not going anywhere any time soon. Beautifully piecing boho and rustic, weaving the two together for a laid back look.
Pops of bright colour were used throughout.
A vast array of brights used in the flower arrangements, confirming that brides don't always have to play it safe by going with the classic white.
Perhaps you not labelled as a classic bride, but rather an alternative bride? This dress does complete justice to a vintage find, you'll fall in love with the retro lace look that a new replica would not have the same effect. Scouring through vintage clothing shops you could possibly find a real gem, just like this one. Opting away from the stark white dress, love that it has more of an ivory tone and is complimented beautifully with leather Blu Betty's.
On the eye there is more of a muted, neutral eye shadow used, however, the bold lip colour gives it an over all pop. This look, together with braided hair completes the vintage boho inspired look.
Geometrics aren't only for the classic wedding with rose golds and shimmer. How cute is it that geometric was used in natural wood. The geometric decor following through from the wedding stationery used; invitations, table seating, and menu. A beautiful incorporation of geometric decor laced with flower arrangements in bright colours.
The cake has a classic look, however, with a slight splash of colour and a red velvet inside gives it a complete wedding cake alternative.
There's more than enough inspiration to go through with this pretty styled shoot and when you done taking down all your ideas lets run to the barn... Let's go get married
These ladies out did themselves on this collaboration. Tying together bold, soft, modern and boho. Kelly and Anre show that there is a look catering for every kind of bride.
I love the elegant, soft looks and thereafter the playfulness that portrays afterwards with bold pops of colour.
This collaboration just proves that gone are the days of brides having to stick to the traditional, classic look of subtle, natural, make up and hair.
This styled shoot embraces every kind of playfulness a 2018 bride would like to capture. With eye-catching colour and twists of hair, it makes for a whole lot of pretty on the eyes.
Read on below for all the unique details:
Anre Erasmus Hairstylist details on Hair:
For this photoshoot collaboration, Kelly May MUA and I, really wanted play around with different looks.
I really wanted to “bring back" the chignon/French roll.
It worked so well with Ruth's hair. It also brought out her stunning colour. To finish the style off I added pretty pearl clips.
I wanted to do a retake on the traditional half up/half down style. I did an upside down plait and tucked the sides up to open up her lovely face, and left the soft curls cascading down.
Kirsty was the perfect opportunity to show that you don’t need long locks to look absolutely beautiful and bridal on your wedding day. I did soft waves on her short blonde hair, and took it a little step further by adding a bold beautiful flower piece on the one side. It created a lovely, fun yet elegant look. For the creative part of the shoot I just shook out her hair for some volume. Paired with her eclectic floral earrings and the make up Kelly did, Kirsty looked like a cover model for an international magazine.
I really wanted to create a fierce, bold look! Hair was gelled and smoothed down in a middle parting and tied in pony and then plaited. For the creative part of the shoot, I rolled her plait into a bun and had some fun with gold foil.
Kelly May Makeup Artist details on Makeup:
After a year of chatting about this concept, Anre and I finally sat down and planned this insane, fun day, and we are so glad we did!
With her stunning French Roll hair style, i wanted to focus on her makeup in a simple yet eye catching way. To enhance the Blue of Ruth's eyes I used a Rose Gold pigment with a subtle brown/nude lip. I was ecstatic with the overall effect.
I wanted to capture her Fun, Earthy Style which would complement the boho inspired hair. Using an intense golden pigment, mixed with a dazzle eyeshadow, I absolutely loved the simplistic vibe with her cute smile.
Kirsty was our Fun-loving inspiration. Using a snowy eye shadow, mixed with a soft highlighter and a perfectly thin top eyeliner really made her eyes light up with excitement. Adding a bold and bright pink lip really brought her spirit to life.
Biddy was our Bold and Brave mood Board. I wanted her makeup to really thrive here. By using a bold, bronze pigment on the eyes with intense dark shading in the crease, really made her eyes melt the camera. A beautiful dark lip really just made it all come together, like a dream, with the perfectly fierce ponytail.
After all the looks had been captured by Estefania, I used some pretty glitters, liquid makeup and loose foil to do a little fun section.
Lady Marmalaide East London:
Lady Marmalaide East London supplied 4 exclusive wedding gowns, from the popular Modeca, Le Papillon and Nicole Spose Collections. Each gown represented a completely unique look, which tied in so well with the beautiful hair and makeup of each model.
Sarah May Florals:
I was given colours and Themes to work with.
Kirsty, was a fun look with bold cerise pink. I was asked to do a styled clip and earrings. I wanted something light to use on the earrings, so the bougainvillea was perfect, paired with some celosia, ice cream bush and other wild flowers that all came out my garden and worked perfectly. I loved creating these bright fun florals.
Ruth, was a little more of a sophisticated, elegant and dreamy look. I was asked to work with white on a floral hoop. We used masses of flowers to create this look, white Lisianthus, ranunculus, and stock flowers. These are some of my favourite flowers for weddings, so was in my comfort zone.
Carla, was the greenery bride, instead of using the normal muted eucalyptus, I played around with different textures of the natural greens, with foraged ferns and assorted greenery to create this more natural look.
I prefer natural light so I usually look for nice light coming from windows when shooting indoors, having to watch out for any clutter in the background too. I love framing subjects and centring them, which goes against the rule of thirds. Before taking a photo you have to double check that the dress looks pretty, model has a good posture, light is right, hair isn’t over the face, etc. I prefer using the 50mm and 85mm lenses. I like primed as they create beautiful bokeh.
If you are dreaming of an elegant garden wedding with the golden sun setting against the greenery, you will adore this classic white, grey and green wedding inspiration.
Meet me down the garden path...
Cay Rohlandt Photography | www.cayrohlandtphotography.co.za captured these mesmerizing images beautifully. Cay will ensure that she captures your perfect moments and will make your wedding memories last a lifetime.
Confetti Designs | www.confettidesigns.co.za designed classic elegance mixed with a modern twist. A unique menu design which hangs off of the table laying on the napkins. A similar feature flowed through to the name cards as they were also placed hanging off the crystal glasses.
Lady Marmalaide East London | www.ladymarmalaide.com Nicole Spose 2018 - the dress that a princess dreams of. This gown was beautifully adorned with lace, embroidery and beads. The most beautiful back detail with buttons all the way down flowing into a long train.
Rosy Glow Make Up enhanced natural beauty by doing a soft eye yet defining eyeliner. Finishing off the look with a subtle mauve lip colour.
Sam at Verve created a swept upstyle. I love how it almost looks like a water feature in the way that it flowed to the side. It pulled together the elegance of the classic and timeless styles but at the same time had body on the top. It flows beautifully, accentuating the neckline.
Bee's Cupcake Corner created the beautiful three tiered marble cake incorporating the grey marble. The grey marble creates the modern flair and sleek edge. The look is achieved by kneading together two colours of fondant until you get an irresistible swirl. Resulting in a chic elegant twist on the traditional white wedding cake. Such a pretty work of art.
Sarah May - Fine Art Florals & Styling | www.sarahmayfloralart.com the soft romantic bouquet was made by using garden roses, snowdons, veronica, chinks, stocks with foraged greenery. The bouquet was hand tied, an organic botanical styled bouquet being loose and unstructured which gave it the soft romantic look.
The tables had a variety of bottles filled with white lisianthus which carried the flow of the unstructured and organic style that finished off the look of straight out of the garden.
The Juniper Event Hire & Styling Co mixed different textures so well. The table overlay was a soft grey chiffon. A clear under plate together with a muted gray ceramic plate made the perfect match, keeping it simple with white napkins. Cutlery and candle holders were kept to silver to complete and finish off the look.
