Today's post is a guest post by Yolanda Rose Haripersad. Yolanda is mother, wife, serial entrepreneur, digital marketer, wealth advisor and host of The Digital Masters Podcast & the Wealth Nation Podcast:
It’s time to have some fun in between the sheets—balance sheets, that is. I would bet my wedding ring, that there is no couple that has not had a disagreement about money. Financially planning as newly weds is essential to a successful marriage. Come clean about salaries and other income, as well as your spending and debt. A recent survey found that 38% of couples were only somewhat or not at all aware of their significant other’s debts. In fact, 43% of people don’t even know how much their partner earns, a Fidelity survey found. The irony: 72% of the same couples said that they communicate exceptionally or very well about financial matters. I spoke to Magda Wierzycka, founder and CEO of Sygnia, a financial services company. Magda recommends that, we as women, should never depend on a man for money. Married or not, we need our own money. Yes, we will plan and build wealth together, but set aside a certain portion for your personal needs. This August, in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa, I launched a new podcast focusing on empowering women on their personal finance and entrepreneurial journey. The Wealth Nation Podcast launches on 1 August 2019. The Show is for every mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and wife as well as the men who are smart enough to tune in. The show brings you all you need to know about Investments, business, property investments, personal finance and all round financial wellness. In my first episode I speak to one of South Africa’s female financial power houses, Magda Wierzycka, founder and CEO of Sygnia. She tells us 7 things that women should do to get her finances in order.
